ARA REPRESENTATION ON ALEXANDRA PARK AND PALACE COMMITTEES
Ally Pally is a Charitable Trust. Haringey Council is the present
Trustee.
The Council has mostly devolved responsibility to the AP&P Board,
consisting
of Haringey Councillors. There are 2 Committees on which representatives
of
local residents' associations can sit.
AP&P Consultative Committee: Initiated by the Council during the
planning
and rebuilding of the Palace after the 1980 fire, it consists of
representatives of local residents' associations, non-commercial users of the
Park and Palace and other interested bodies. (For example, The AP Amateur
Ice Skating Club, the Hornsey Historical Society and the relevant trade
union.) Also on the Committee are the Councillors who sit on the Board
and
it is chaired by the Chair of the Board. It has a purely advisory role.
AP&P Statutory Committee: This is enshrined in the 1985 Act which
governs
the operation of the Trust. Its role is broadly to act as a safeguard for
the environment of the local area and its inhabitants. It consists of
representatives of local residents' associations, together with Councillors
from wards which border Ally Pally. It is chaired by a representative of
a
Residents' association. The Trustees have to consult this Committee on
specified matters, and 'have due and proper regard' to its advice. It
does
not have power of veto, but can take up issues with the Secretary of State
and the Charities Commission. It will not lose it's role under the
proposed
changes to the legislation.
The Committees meet 5-6 times a year, in the evening, at the Palace.
